Afro hair tends to be dry because curls make it harder for oil to flow from the scalp to each strand of hair. This dryness is one of the main causes of breakage and is an obstacle to hair growth.
Luckily, there is a hair care technique that helps maximize moisture retention, which helps promote hair growth. The LCO method involves layering hair care in the following order to keep your hair and scalp healthy: L= liquid/leave-in conditioner, C= cream, and O= oil.
In this article, we will demystify the LCO method and compare it with the LOC method.
How does the LCO method work?
L FOR LEAVE-IN (LEAVE-IN CONDITIONER)
Leave-in is short for Leave-in conditioner . It is recommended to apply a leave-in conditioner after shampooing, when hair is damp, to allow it to absorb and retain moisture. Our creme, leave-in moisturizer is a conditioner that hydrates and softens hair while maintaining shine and softness.
C FOR CREAM
The styling cream acts as a barrier that protects your hair and helps prevent dryness. You can choose a butter-cream like our " Moisturizing Butter Cream " , to style and define your curls. If you have very dry hair, opt for our protein cream butter : its very nourishing formula softens the hair in addition to providing maximum hydration. You can now style your hair as you wish: wash n go , twist out, braid-out or with curlers ( perm rods ).
O FOR OIL
As a finishing coat, the application of an oil creates a barrier that maintains the moisturizing effect of the leave-in conditioner, allowing your hair to remain flexible until the next shampoo. It's important to use an oil or a blend of oils (avocado, jojoba, olive, etc.) to seal in moisture. Our 3-in-1 hair oil protects against heat, helps lock in moisture and protects ends.
What is the difference between LOC and LCO method?
Both methods are two very similar techniques, but there is one key difference: the second step of each technique. With the LOC method, you apply oil to your hair after applying the leave-in, while with the LCO method hair cream should follow the application of the leave-in.
What method should I use?
When it comes to choosing between the LOC and LCO method, there is no right or wrong answer, as hair reacts differently. We advise you to test one method first and if it doesn't work for your hair, try the other.
Our discovery sets contain the treatments for the three steps: the leave-in moisturizer (Liquid), the moisturizing cream butter or protein cream butter (Cream) and the 3-in-1 hair oil (oil).
If you have low porosity hair, go for the Moisturizing Care Discovery Set .
If you have low porosity hair, opt for the Moisturizing and Protein Care Discovery Set.
If you constantly struggle with dry hair, applying one of these methods to your hair routine should make a difference. Both of these techniques help keep hydration in place for several days.
