Does having natural hair really cost more? Not so fast!

It's a phrase you sometimes hear among black and mixed-race women: natural (frizzy) hair is expensive to maintain. It's a comment that may reflect the discomfort some people have with their curly or frizzy hair.

Here are 6 reasons why wearing your hair natural seems expensive to us, when it is not!

1. Having straightened hair has its cost

In a hair salon or at home, straightening has a cost. At the hairdresser, obviously this can require a minimum of fifty dollars. The prices of home relaxers have dropped considerably since the natural trend took over, but you still have to buy the product if you are getting your hair straightened.

Otherwise, many black women (straightened or not) like to wear braids, extensions, weaves, wigs, and these are not cheap! In addition to the cost of relaxer and regular care products, when you wear lace wigs to have a little volume and length, the costs are added.

2. There are products for all wallets

There are several product lines with varying prices, that's for sure! Expensive products aren't just for frizzy or curly hair. There are plenty of very expensive ranges for straight hair, just as there are cheap ranges for curly and frizzy hair.

The cost of a product depends on factors such as the quality of the ingredients, the manufacturing process, the size of the company or the market. And the more natural and quality the formulas, the harder it is to reduce manufacturing costs. It's up to you to decide if you're looking for the best possible quality for your hair, or if a more synthetic shampoo is right for you.

3. Product quality is better than quantity

The benefit of having good quality products is that you don't have to have 10,000. With four or five products, you're doing very well! It takes at least a shampoo, a conditioner ( conditioner ), a moisturizer and maybe a styling butter.

When you invest in quality – and it doesn't matter in which sphere of life, in the long term, it is more profitable. The real solution to spending less on hair products is already to learn to know and respect your hair and know how to read labels!

4. What is valuable to you?

Often people resist natural hair because that part of their beauty is simply less valuable to them. Some people prefer to spend on high-quality makeup, designer accessories, or expensive clothes. But when it comes time to buy a hair product, suddenly there's resistance.

It's all about perspective! If this is your case, maybe you are uncomfortable spending money on your hair because you are not too sure which product to buy? It will be our pleasure to help you!

5. You don't like your natural hair

If you find that taking care of your natural hair is still a big financial burden, the problem is probably deeper than your pockets. Could it be that you don't value or value your natural hair? Any expense associated with taking care of it will then feel like a burden, while straightening or extensions will feel like a reward. At this point, you should look into the question of why you don't like your natural hair. You're right not to like or embrace them, but it can be an interesting conversation to have with yourself.

6. Yes, but... time is money

We also repeat that frizzy hair takes a long time to maintain. Yes, you have to take the time to wash, detangle your hair and style every week or so. But in fact, the hair reflects the time we put into it. In comparison, if you want a good physical shape, you have to take the time to feed it well and exercise it; for impeccable makeup, you have to take the time to apply it, etc.

So why when it comes to frizzy hair does time suddenly feel like torture? Quite simply because we compare them with straight hair, which requires a different maintenance time! You just have to accept thatcurly and afro hair are different, without comparing or ranking them with other hair types.

And you, do you think that natural hair is expensive?
